FERRIDAY, La. – A two-vehicle accident on U.S. 84 near Ferriday Saturday claimed the life of a Pineville man and sent a Jonesville woman to the hospital.
Robert S. Tharpe, 27, was driving east in a 1991 Nissan when he apparently crossed the center line in a curve and was struck by westbound car of Vernice Curry, age 43.
According to the Louisiana State Police, Tharpe’s vehicle may have been in a slide when the crash occurred, because impact was to the passenger side of the vehicle.
Tharpe was pronounced dead at the scene by Concordia Parish Coroner’s Office, and Curry was transported by ambulance to Riverland Hospital in Ferriday where she was treated for minor injuries.
A rain-slicked roadbed coupled with unsafe speed for driving conditions is believed to have caused the accident. Alcohol tests are pending, but officials have no evidence at this time to indicate it was a factor.
Both drivers were wearing their safety belts. The accident occurred about four miles west of Ferriday at about 10:20 p.m.
