Manchester silences Centreville

The Manchester Mavericks ended Centreville’s shot at a fourth straight MPSA Class 3A state title with a 20-3 win over the Tigers Friday night at Yazoo City.

Manchester got all of its 329 total yards of offense on the ground while its defense held Centreville to 153 total yards.

Brent Sanders led Manchester with 138 yards on 24 carries and scored on a 3-yard run in the third quarter.

Josh Hoffman had 15 carries for 118 yards and two touchdowns, a 15-yard run in the first quarter and an 11-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Centreville’s only score came on an 18-yard field goal by Royce Fonte in the second quarter.

Centreville quarterback Joshua Jones had a rough night, completing only three of 12 passes for 37 yards and was intercepted four times.

John Vincent caught two passes for 25 yards.

B.J. Robertson led the Tigers in rushing with 10 carries for 46 yards.

Centreville finished the season with an 8-5 record.
