The Trinity Lady Saints overcame a sluggish first quarter for a come-from-behind 57-41 win over the Copiah Academy Lady Colonels Saturday at the Clyde Adams Arena on the Trinity Episcopal campus.

Trinity’s Vanessa Gordon led all scorers with 15 points to go along with five rebounds and two steals.

Ashley Kingsafer had 14 points and was 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Sara Greer had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds and was 3-for-3 from the line.

Overall, the Lady Saints made 11-of-12 free throws in the game.

&uot;The girls came out ready to play and stayed focused,&uot; said Lady Saints head coach Melanie Hall. &uot;Vanessa had a good game. I thought everyone contributed well tonight.&uot;

The Lady Colonels (3-2) got off to a quick start led by Madeline Price, who had eight of her 13 points in the first quarter, including two 3-pointers, as Copiah took a 16-13 lead going into the second quarter.

But the Lady Saints (7-1) took control of the game by outscoring the Lady Colonels 18-8 in the second quarter to take a 31-24 halftime lead.

&uot;I thought the girls made the adjustments real well,&uot; Hall said.

The Lady Saints outscored the Lady Colonels 15-11 in the third quarter and 11-6 in the fourth quarter for the final score.

Lauren Tanner had 12 rebounds to go along with four points and Becky Bass had eight points and nine rebounds.

Ashley Garner had 11 points and seven rebounds for the Lady Colonels.

In the varsity boys game, Trinity opened up a close game with a 13-0 run in the second quarter and cruised to a 72-36 win over Copiah.

Chad Ridley led a balanced scoring attack for Trinity with 13 points, six rebounds, nine steals and six assists.

Chase Brown had 12 points, five rebounds, 11 steals and six assists. Mike Lickliter had 10 points, eight rebounds and seven steals before fouling out in the fourth quarter.

&uot;Anytime you beat a 3A team, it feels good,&uot; Saints head coach David King said. &uot;It was an excellent defensive game. We’re excited to be 2-0. We just hope to keep it going.&uot;

Trinity outscored Copiah 26-5 in the second quarter to take a 44-15 halftime lead and put the game out of reach.

Gregory Ketchings came close to having a triple-double with nine points, seven rebounds and eight steals.

The Saints had a total of 41 steals in the game.

Trinity’s varsity teams play at Silliman next Thursday at 6 p.m
