Tommy Wright scored 10 of his 17 points in the first quarter to lead the Jackson Prep Patriots to an easy 72-40 win over the Adams County Christian Rebels Monday night at the ACCS gym.

The contest between former MPSA District South AAAA opponents ended up the same way as the varsity girls game – no contest.

Jackson Prep jumped out to a 19-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and cruised to the victory.

&uot;Jackson Prep’s going to have another good team,&uot; said Rebels head coach Paul Hayles. &uot;They’re well-coached and they showed a lot of class.&uot;

The only reason the game wasn’t more of a rout was because of the number of missed free throws and three-pointers by the Patriots.

Jackson Prep was 11-of-17 at the line while ACCS was 8-of-20 at the line.

&uot;We shot 66 percent from the line against WCCA last week, so we did much worse this week,&uot; Hayles said.

ACCS closed Jackson Prep’s lead to 11 at 21-10 on a 6-2 run to start the second quarter, but got no closer than that the rest of the way.

Jackson Prep led 37-16 at halftime and put the game even further out of reach by outscoring the Rebels 22-11 in the third quarter.

Jackson Prep connected on five three-pointers, two by Christopher Johnston, who finished with eight points.

Walker Shields had 12 points and Jim Still had nine points for the Patriots.

The one bright spot for the Rebels was the play of point guard Ty Smith, who led all scorers with 21 points to go along with 10 rebounds, two steals and one three-pointer.

&uot;Ty has the potential to contribute a lot to our offense,&uot; Hayles said.

Garrett Gamberi and Beau Braisher had six points each for ACCS. The Rebels (0-2) play at Huntington beginning at approximately 8 p.m. today.

In the junior varsity boys game, Jackson Prep defeated ACCS 64-45.

Jo Jo Tann lead Jackson Prep with 15 points.

Hunter Halford, Chase Clayton and Glen Williams had nine points apiece for ACCS.

The JV boys team plays at Huntington beginning at approximately 5:15 p.m. today.
