Brandi Case scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Adams County Christian Lady Rebels to a 50-38 upset win over the Huntington Lady Hounds Tuesday night at the Rebel Gym.
Kittye Marks added 10 points, two rebounds and three steals. Holli Hankins had seven points, seven rebounds, five blocked shots and one three-pointer.
The Lady Rebels (2-7) won the game despite committing 18 fouls and shooting just over 50 percent (8-for-15) from the free-throw line.
&uot;This was a huge win,&uot; said Lady Rebels head coach Bruce Pickle. &uot;Our girls needed this one.&uot;
Case and Hankins scored 10 of ACCS’s 15 first-quarter points as the Lady Rebels took a four-point lead going into the second quarter.
&uot;I couldn’t have done it without the other girls,&uot; Case said. &uot;I think we pulled together and played great as a team. I’m proud of the other girls and the way they played.&uot;
The Lady Hounds (5-4) scored seven of their nine second-quarter points at the free-throw line, but trailed 30-20 at halftime.
&uot;I think we were very sluggish,&uot; said Lady Hounds head coach Penny Moak. &uot;We had a hard game last night against Silliman. That pretty much drained us.&uot;
Huntington got back in the game by outscoring ACCS 13-7 in the third quarter to cut the Lady Rebels’ lead to 37-33 going into the fourth quarter.
&uot;I think they were trying (to come back),&uot; Moak said. &uot;(Emily) Hazlip was in foul trouble and she’s our big scorer, so that hurt us.&uot;
The Lady Rebels took command in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Lady Hounds 13-5 for the final score.
One of the few bright spots of the game for Huntington was an overall 12-for-16 performance at the free-throw line.
Sarah Ashmore led Huntington with 11 points and was 5-for-6 at the line. Hazlip was held to eight points.
Huntington next plays tonight at 7 p.m. in the Silliman Tournament in Clinton, La. against the loser of the Oak Forest/Amite School Center game.
ACCS next plays at Parklane at approximately 5:30 p.m.Thursday.
