VIDALIA, La. – The Vidalia High School Ronnie Brown Invitational Tournament finals today will feature cross-county rivals Ferriday and Vidalia in both the boys and girls brackets as the Lady Trojans defeated Newellton and the Vikings defeated Block in Friday match-ups.

In the boys bracket, the first quarter the Vikings-Bears game ended in an 18-18 tie. The second quarter was a different story, however, as Vidalia outscored Block 29-10 in the period to take a lead that would last until the final score of 83-55.

The Vikings’ scoring blitz was aided by A.J.Warner, who had five rebounds, four steals and 13 points in the second quarter alone.

Kenny Warner scored a team-high 18 points for Vidalia and A.J.Warner finished with 15.

&uot;It started off close but we got better thanks to A.J. Warner and Kenny Warner who provided great offense and defense,&uot; Vikings coach Robert Sanders said.

&uot;It was a good game,&uot; A.J. Warner said. &uot;We kept pressing on their defense and we scored it for the offense.&uot;

Jermany Washington led Block with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Vidalia will face Ferriday in the final game of the tournament at 7:30 p.m. today. Ferriday defeated Winnsboro 41-39 Thursday in the final seconds of the game.

Monique Jones’ 34 points were the spark that led the Lady Trojans to a 68-42 win over the Newellton Lady Bears.

The Lady Trojans (4-2) took a first quarter lead of 19-9, and seemed content with it for the first half. Ferriday held the ball for the final minute of the second quarter for a halftime lead of 29-21.

Jones took advantage of a tenacious Lady Trojan press in the third quarter and scored the first nine points of the quarter, most off Newellton turnovers. Jones had 19 points in the third quarter alone.

&uot;We forced a lot of turnovers and we scored off the press,&uot; Ferriday coach Lisa Abron said. &uot;That’s the main thing we stressed.&uot;

Ferriday had 26 steals to Newelton’s 11. LaShawnda Pryor had seven of Ferriday’s steals, along with 11 points.

&uot;We’ve got Vidalia next,&uot; Abron said. &uot;We’re going to have to do the same thing to them.&uot;

The championship game between Ferriday and Vidalia will be at 6 p.m. today. Vidalia defeated Block 68-54 on Thursday.
