FERRIDAY, La. – The Ferriday Police Department blared the sirens as it led the way for the floats in Saturday’s Ferriday Christmas parade, themed &uot;A Musical Christmas.&uot;

&uot;It was a nice gesture,&uot;&160;said Lloyd Love, referring to serving as grand marshal of this year’s parade. &uot;I&160;really enjoyed it.&uot;

Love, whose car was close to the front of the parade, said his only complaint is that he did not have enough candy to throw out to the scores of children who lined the parade route.

Crowds lined E.E. Wallace Boulevard, Louisiana Avenue and First Street at 10 a.m. to catch a glimpse of the floats, catch candy and listen to the Ferriday High School marching band.

&uot;My favorite part is the bands, and I&160;know some people riding on the floats,&uot; said 13-year-old Terence Johnson.

The parade ended with waves from Santa Claus, who was perched on top of the Ridgecrest Fire Department truck.

As the parade ended, three children differed in their opinions about the best part of the parade.

&uot;I liked the dalmatian puppies the best,&uot; said Lansing Brakenridge, 3, of the &uot;102 Dalmatians&uot; float.

Her brother Chase Brakenridge, 5, said Santa Claus was his favorite part of the parade, while his friend Jay Vaughan, 4 said, &uot;I liked the Grinch,&uot; referring to the Krewe of St. John’s float.

&uot;I&160;thought it went really well,&uot;&160;said Chris Vaughan, president of the Ferriday Chamber of Commerce, which sponsored the parade.

&uot;The crowds were good and the weather was nice. It was cold, but everybody seemed to be having a good time.&uot;

&uot;From what I&160;saw, the crowds along the streets were a lot larger than I&160;thought they would be,&uot;&160;said Jennifer Mize, an organizer of the parade.
