A kitchen fire seriously damaged a Natchez apartment Wednesday evening. Above, as Capt. Kirby Pickering hoses down the ceiling, Natchez firefighters Chris Dunaway and Lane Whitehead survey the fire damage to the kitchen of Apartment 8-G at Oak Ridge Manor Apartments, 301 McNeeley Road in Natchez. According to apartment manager Debbie Young, resident Margie Ford was not home at the time of the fire. Natchez firefighters said the kitchen sustained major fire damage while the rest of the second floor apartment received heavy smoke damage. The first floor apartment below sustained heavy water damage. The fire appears to have started in the kitchen and may have been caused by a pot left on the stove, firefighters said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
