VIDALIA, La. – It was business as usual for the Lady Vikings Wednesday as solid shooting and a swarming defense decimated the Davidson Lady Warriors 85-27.
&uot;That was most enjoyable for us,&uot; said Vidalia coach Lillian Johnson. &uot;We had a lot of fun. Our girls were very relaxed.&uot;
Perhaps &uot;sneaky&uot; better describes a Lady Vikings team that racked up 22 steals to Davidson’s eight. Every Lady Viking that played recorded at least one steal.
&uot;That’s one thing we don’t play around with. We don’t slack up on defense,&uot; Johnson said. &uot;If we play good defense and get the scores up, we can put the little girls in and have some fun. But you have to get your defense together first.&uot;
Natalie McGraw led the Lady Vikings with a game-high 24 points and six steals. Wendy Paul and Brendy Ellis turned in solid performances with identical marks of 16 points, five rebounds and four steals. Dominique Trimble added 11 points and nine boards.
Lizzie Percy was the only Lady Warrior to find a chink in Vidalia’s armor, scoring a team-high 15 points.
Vidalia (16-4) never trailed in the game, outscoring Davidson 22-9 in the first quarter and taking a halftime lead of 40-16.
The Lady Vikings held Davidson scoreless in the fourth quarter until only six seconds remained in the game. Percy’s jumper ended a 31-0 run for Vidalia.
&uot;We scored pretty good considering we played everybody,&uot; Johnson said. &uot;For a holiday game, I thought we did pretty good.&uot;
Vidalia plays again Friday at Port Gibson. The girls game starts at 6 p.m., followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m.
