Trinity still unbeaten in District 5-1A

Both Trinity teams stayed undefeated in District 5-1A Friday easily dispatching Ben’s Ford in a pair of home contests. The Lady Saints beat the Lady Eagles 90-34 and the Saints defeated the Eagles 97-46 in Clyde Adams Arena.
The Lady Saints (16-3, 4-0) held the Lady Eagles scoreless until just under a minute remained in the first quarter of the girls varsity game. By the time Jessica Corkern hit the jumper that gave Ben’s Ford its only points of the period, Trinity was up by 25 points.
The early charge was led by Vanessa Gordon, who racked up 14 points, five rebounds, two steals and a block in the first period alone. She finished with a game-high 21 points.
Trinity’s domination continued in the second quarter, and the Lady Saints led 51-12 at the half.
&uot;I thought our offense executed well,&uot; Trinity coach Melanie Hall said. &uot;We’ve been scoring, but not executing.
&uot;I liked the way the girls encouraged each other. There was good communication,&uot; Hall said. &uot;Even the girls on the bench were involved in the game.&uot;
Lindsey Hunt was more involved than most, scoring 16 points off the bench for Trinity. Lauren Tanner scored 19 and Becky Bass added 13. Sara Greer just missed a triple-double with nine points, 10 steals and 10 assists.
Casey McKenzie led Ben’s Ford (5-8, 1-3) with 10 points.
Chad Ridley had a career-high 39 points to lead the boys varsity team to victory.
&uot;I had a big shoot-around this morning, and didn’t miss the easy lay-ups tonight like I’ve been doing,&uot; Ridley said. &uot;I had a good game.&uot;
Trinity (11-3, 4-0) jumped out to an early 27-12 lead and never looked back. The Saints outscored the Eagles by at least 10 points in every quarter.
&uot;Chad had a great game, but it really was a team effort,&uot; Trinity coach David King said. &uot;This was probably our best game so far.
Mike Lickliter added 10 points and 11 boards for the Saints.
In junior-high action, the Lady Saints edged the Lady Eagles 39-37 in overtime, and the Saints beat the Eagles 52-50 on the strength of Dudley Guice’s 30 point, 31 rebound night.
Both Trinity teams next face another district opponent when the host Amite School Center today. The girls game begins after the junior high games around 4 p.m. with the boys immediately following.
