Windshield vandals deserve punishment

Adams County residents fell victim to vandals again Sunday night. Nearly a dozen car windshields were smashed – presumably by vandals – throughout Natchez and the county. In one instance, police even found a mailbox – stolen from another resident – inside a vehicle after the mailbox had been thrown through the windshield.
And, what was likely a prank by teenagers or young adults, is more aptly described as a malicious offense.
Replacing a windshield can cost a vehicle owners as much as $300 or $400 … not to mention the inconvenience of being unable to operate their vehicle for the day.
As of Monday afternoon, Natchez police were still searching for suspects in the case.
And, if caught, these vandals will face prosecution for their offenses.
We have written many times before about the maliciousness of vandalism in our community – from soap tossed into downtown fountains to mailbox-bashing incidents to the smashing of glass walls and doors at downtown business that took place about four years ago.
Sadly, these destructive rampages continue … most likely at the hands of teens who fail to understand the maliciousness of their actions.
And, again, we speak to those young people, urging you to keep yourselves, and your peers, in line. When the temptation to vandalize property arises, ignore it. Better yet, walk away … and, if you have any information about someone who commits vandalism, report that information to the proper authorities.
And chalk the experience up to a lesson on good citizenship … and responsible actions.
