Ferriday notches 3-2A wins

Ferriday’s varsity boys and girls basketball teams won a pair of District 3-2A games over Crowville Tuesday night at the Ferriday High Gym in the district opener for both teams.

The Lady Trojans defeated Crowville 46-36 in the varsity girls game.

Monique Jones led Ferriday (11-9, 1-0) with 16 points and Torisheka Taylor added 15.

The Trojans defeated Crowville 75-52 in the varsity boys game.

&uot;I thought offensively we played good,&uot; said Trojans head coach James Davis. &uot;The guys were real focused defensively. Jason (Scott) and Derrick Williams had real good games.&uot;

Ferriday next hosts Block beginning at 5 p.m. Friday.

McCall at Vidalia

Vidalia and McCall split a District 3-2A doubleheader Tuesday night at the Vidalia High Gym.

The Lady Vikings defeated McCall 74-58 in the varsity girls game.

Natalie McGraw led Vidalia (20-4, 1-0) with 33 points.

&uot;We got off to a slow start, but were able to hold on,&uot; said Lady Vikings head coach Lillian Johnson. &uot;We got some fast breaks we needed to get on top and get the win.&uot;

In the varsity boys game, McCall defeated the Vikings 83-71.

Jarvis Vaughn led Vidalia (15-7, 0-1) with 32 points.

&uot;The third quarter was our downfall because of foul trouble,&uot; said Vikings head coach Robert Sanders. &uot;Several of our key scorers were on the bench. When we went to our bench, our inexperience showed.&uot;

Byron Williams led McCall (21-1, 1-0) with 26 points.

Vidalia next plays at Crowville at 6 p.m. Friday.
