The Krewe of Mer will be having its Grand Ball on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Highland Health Club from 8 p.m.-until by invitation only. The theme will be &uot;Luau Mer&160;Style&uot; and the Krewe of Mer will present the beautiful islands of Aloha.

Here are the members of the 2001 Krewe of Mer:

Margaret B. January is captain of the Krewe of Mer.

January is the wife of Andrew January and has two children.

She serves as secretary of United Baptist Church. She is co-owner of January Printing. She graduated from North Natchez High School and attended Copiah-Lincoln Junior College.

She was a 1998 graduate of Leadership Natchez and currently serves on the National Council of Negro Women.

Her hobbies include reading, shopping and cooking.

Freddie Woods is King of the Krewe of Mer.

Freddie Woods is the husband of Tonya Renee Woods and has three sons.

He is a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. He graduated from North Natchez High School and attended Tuskegee University.

He is vice-president for the Krewe of Mer and is a T.M. Jennings Little League volunteer.

His hobbies include hunting, fishing, reading, cooking, baseball and surfing the net.

Tonya Renee Woods, Freddie Woods’ wife and mother of three sons, is Queen of the Krewe of Mer.

Tonya Renee Woods is a member of Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church. She works in the bakery department of Wal-Mart SuperCenter.

She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Pensacola, Fla., and attended Alabama State University.

She is the chaplain for the Krewe of Mer and is a member of the Magnolia Mint Corporation.

Her hobbies include shopping, traveling, reading, cooking, collecting African Art, and most of all spending quality time with family and friends.

Carol Brown is duchess for the Krewe of Mer.

Brown is single and has two children.

She serves as a member of the choir at Union Baptist Church in Vidalia. She is general manager of K104 FM Radio Station.

She graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge.

She is a member of several organizations: the National Association of Female Executives; the National Association For School Public Relations; the National Association of Broadcasters; and the Mississippi Association of Educators.

She was also a 1998 graduate of Leadership Natchez.

Her hobbies including reading, listening to music and collecting dolphins.

Linda McMurtry is duchess for the Krewe of Mer.

McMurtry is single and has three children.

She serves as a member of the choir at Union Baptist Church in Natchez and is the chairman of the Union Baptist Church Stewpot Committee. She is employed by the Natchez-Adams School District as a secondary curriculum supervisor.

She graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Alcorn State University and a masters degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge. She has further studies at the University of Southern Mississippi.

She is a member of numerous organizations: the Mississippi Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development; the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development; Phi Delta Kappa; Delta Regional Systemic Initiative (Regional Advisory Council member); the National Council of Negro Women; the Mississippi Association of Secondary Administrators; the Order of Eastern Star Silver Leaf Chapter No. 168; a board member for the Partnership for A Healthy Adams County; the NAACP; the National Association for Secondary School Principals; and the Alcorn State Alumni Chapter.

She is also a 1997 graduate of Leadership Natchez.

Her hobbies include reading and listening to christian music.

Valeria Johnson is duchess for the Krewe of Mer.

She serves as a member of the choir at Holy Family Catholic Church. She works at AT&T as customer project manager.

She graduated from Grambling State University.

She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Holy Family Gospel Choir and Ujamaa Investment Club.

Her hobby is traveling.

James Walker is duke for the Krewe of Mer. He serves as an usher at Zion Flower Baptist Church. He is an environmentalist with the Mississippi State Department of Health; owner of Leaders of Tomorrow Day Care in Fayette; and senior associate of Tower Enterprise Wholesale Jewelry.

He graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Alcorn State University.

He is a member of Clover Hill Lodge No. 13 AF&AM; the Environmental Health Association of Mississippi; a board member of Jefferson Comprehensive Health Center; and a board member of ASU’s Animal Science Department.

His hobbies include fishing, hunting and bowling.

Leroy Williams is duke for the Krewe of Mer.

Williams is the husband of Alma Williams and has seven children.

He serves as an usher and is a member of the Board of Trustees at Zion Chapel A.M.E. Church and is a member of the Men of Zion.

He graduated from Brumfield High School and attended Natchez College.

He is a member of the Wharlest Jackson Elks Lodge.

His hobbies include playing music, fishing, hunting and traveling.

Jerrold Lyles is duke for the Krewe of Mer. Lyles is the husband of Malika Lyles and has two children.

He is a member of Union Baptist Church in Natchez. He serves as technician for Titan Tire Company.

He graduated from Natchez High School and Alcorn State University.

He is a member of several organizations: the Wharlest Jackson Elks Lodge; Elijah Lodge No. 1; Deborah Chapter No. 5 O.E.S.; and Alkoran Court No. 35 Nobles of Mystic Shrines.

His hobbies include sports and spending time with family.
