JACKSON – Saturday was a rotten day for Christy Fairly.

Four Mississippi track records formerly held by Fairly were shattered by Natchez superstar Janice Davis at the Magnolia Indoor Track Classic this weekend.

&uot;We came to break them all,&uot; said Natchez coach Henry &uot;Doc&uot; Woods. &uot;Janice is the No. 1 sprinter in the nation. She was awesome.&uot;

And her supporting cast isn’t bad either, as the Natchez High girls team took first place in the 4A/5A division.

Davis first broke the record of 7.22 in the 55-meter dash with a preliminary time of 7.17. Davis then broke her own record in the final round with a blazing time of 7.13.

Davis earned another first place and another state record in the 400-meter event, breaking Fairly’s record of 58.06 with a time of 56.77.

Natchez’s Tameka Hill and Ruby King placed second and third in the event with respective times of 1:06 and 1:07.

Davis’ first-place time of 39.91 in the 300-meter event broke Fairly’s old record of 41.82.

Davis was also a member of the 1,600-meter relay team, whose first-place time of 4:10 broke the previous record of 4:22 held by George County, Fairly’s school. Chiquita McNealy, Natalie Novel and Tameka Hill rounded out the Natchez relay team.

Natchez placed second in the 3,200-meter relay with a time of 10:40. The team consisted of Novel, McNealy, Reo Maynard and Sebrina Dixon.

Roslyn Minor earned another first place for Natchez with her time of 9.09 in the 55-meter hurdles.

Lexi Washington earned first place in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 11 inches.

Jonda Ross placed second in the high jump, clearing four feet, 10 inches. McNealy placed fifth with a jump of four feet, six inches.

The Natchez boys finished third in the meet, thanks in part to the speed of Carl Butler.

Butler finished first in the 300-meter and 400-meter events with respective times of 37:10 and 53.18.

Natchez’s Kalico Richardson finished fourth in the 400-meter with a time of 38.31.

The Bulldog runners earned a first-place finish in the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 3:39. The team consisted of Darrius Edwards, Kendrick Gibbons, Butler and Richardson.

Natchez finished fourth in the 3,200-meter relay with a time of 9:21. The team consisted of Richardson, Gibbons, Christopher Thomas and Richard Stewart.

Edwin Skipper placed first in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.42, and John Caston finished second in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.98.

Gibbons placed first in the triple jump with a distance of 39 feet, six inches.
