An Adams County resident was sentenced to life in prison after a jury found him guilty on Wednesday of aggravated assault. Eric Shawn Davis, 33, 190 Booker Road, was sentenced as a habitual offender because he had two prior felony convictions, at least one of which was violent in nature.

He also served more than a year in jail on each charge, making him eligible for life in prison if ever convicted of a third felony, said District Attorney Ronnie Harper.

Davis was convicted Wednesday on two felony charges: possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and aggravated assault. The assault charge stemmed from a November 1999 attack on a former girlfriend.

Davis &uot;apparently got jealous of her talking to some other gentleman,&uot; Harper said.

During an argument, Davis held a shotgun to the victim’s head, Harper said. Although she pushed it away, the gun &uot;fired behind his head,&uot; he added.

Davis later stabbed the victim in the chest with a screwdriver and then tried to run over her with a vehicle.

&uot;She jumped out of the way just before he struck her,&uot; and hid behind a tree, Harper said.

Davis was also found guilty of two counts of simple assault and sentenced to six months in jail on each count.
