Johnathon Jackson led the Green Wave with 19 points and five rebounds. Bart Lane added 10 points, five rebounds and two steals.

Mike Tyler led Hinds with 20 points.

Hinds AHS jumped out to a huge first quarter lead from which the Lady Green Wave never recovered in the girls varsity game.

&uot;They put a lot of pressure on us and went man-to-man,&uot; said Cathedral coach Craig Beesley. &uot;We broke their press two times but missed lay-ups. That was it, though, and it was 13-0 before we knew what happened.&uot;

Cathedral (7-7, 3-5) trailed 23-2 at the end of the first quarter.

&uot;We had a bad first few minutes and a bad few minutes at the end of the second quarter,&uot; Beesley said. &uot;They went on a 12-0 run and ran the score up to 42-18, when is should have only been 30-18.&uot;

Brenna Shoto led Hinds (14-12, 8-1) with 21 points, including six-three pointers. However, Hinds AHS center Amber Watts, who has committed to Ole Miss for next season, was held to only 10 points thanks to the defensive play of Kate Prescott, Beesley said.

&uot;We knew they had speed and athleticism, but we hoped we could contain them early,&uot; Beesley said. &uot;They just jumped out on top at the beginning.&uot;

Vee Brice led the Lady Green Wave with 11 points and Mary Margaret Alwood added nine more.

Cathedral plays another pair of District 6-2A games Monday when the Wave travels to Loyd Star.
