On Senior Night at Clyde Adams Arena on the Trinity Episcopal campus, both varsity basketball teams got off to slow starts against MPSA Class 2A Wilkinson County Christian Academy, but both teams ended up with victories.

In the varsity boys game, Chad Ridley hit two clutch free throws with 0.4 seconds left to help give the Saints a 70-65 win over the Rams.

&uot;It was just what the doctor ordered for the playoffs,&uot; said Saints head coach David King. &uot;It was a close ball game.&uot;

WCCA (12-6) took an 18-15 lead going into the second quarter, only to see Trinity (19-3) go on a 7-0 run to take a four-point lead. Trinity outscored the Rams 25-14 in period to take a 40-32 halftime lead.

With the Saints leading 68-65, the Rams had a chance to send the game into overtime, but John Stewart Daniel and Jason Reed missed consecutive three-point attempts.

&uot;Anybody who thought this team would be 19-3 should wear a straight jacket,&uot; King said.

Ridley led Trinity with 20 points. Brett Mount came off the bench to score 17 points and Chase Brown had 15 points.

Brandon Cavin led WCCA with 23 points and Adam Cornette had 21 points and 19 rebounds.

In the varsity girls game, the Lady Saints needed a big second quarter for a hard-fought 62-53 win over the Lady Rams.

In the last home game for seniors Liz Lewis, Lindsey Hunt, Jennifer Paradise and Sara Greer, junior Vanessa Gordon had a big-time performance.

Gordon scored 22 of her career-high 24 points in the first half. She also had six rebounds, three steals, one three-pointer and one blocked shot.

&uot;It was a very emotional game tonight,&uot; Hall said. &uot;Vanessa had a big game. She told the seniors she wanted to do this for them.&uot;

After being held to only nine first-quarter points and trailing 32-23 with about six minutes left in the second quarter, the Lady Saints (23-4) went on a 16-0 run, with Gordon scoring 12 of those points.

Trinity outscored WCCA (17-4) 26-9 in the second quarter to take a 10-point halftime lead.

Greer and Kingsafer picked up their games in the second half when Gordon got in foul trouble.

Greer finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds and Kingsafer had 11 points and eight rebounds.

Jennifer Tolbert led WCCA with 16 points, Emily Lewis had 11 points and Emily Lanehart had 10 points.
