FAYETTE -Thomasville Furniture Industries announced Monday it will close a lumber plant in Fayette because of softening market conditions and the increased demand for imported products.
Lumber operations at the Fayette plant will be consolidated with Thomasville’s Central Lumber processing facility in North Carolina. Along with the closing of a manufacturing facility in Johnson City, Tenn., the closings will eliminate 390 positions, or about 5 percent of Thomasville’s workforce.
&uot;We regret the hardship these changes will cause for the affected employees, their families and the communities where these facilities are located,&uot; said president and CEO Christian Pfaff.
