Porch leaking? Kitchen sink cracked? Light fixture listing? You may have exactly what Ron Hazelton is seeking.

The nationally known home improvement guru is coming to Natchez and wants a few projects to complete while here sometime in late April or early May.

Here is your opportunity to get free expert help, free materials and star on a syndicated television series at the same time.

Hazelton, perhaps best known as the home improvement editor for ABC-TV’s &uot;Good Morning America,&uot; travels around the country, spending a couple of days at each spot as he helps homeowners with small repairs.

Katharine Jackson, his associate producer, said Hazelton will be in the region between April 20 and May 4. He will visit New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Mobile and Biloxi. &uot;He was looking for some picturesque places, and that’s why Natchez was included,&uot; Jackson said.

The new series, &uot;House Calls,&uot; is in its second season. Hazelton also created and hosted &uot;The House Doctor&uot; on the popular Home and Garden television network; and he has appeared as a home improvement consultant on &uot;The Oprah Winfrey Show.&uot;

In recent months he hosted a series for the History Channel titled, &uot;Modern Marvels.&uot;

And last year Time-Life released his first book, &uot;Ron Hazelton’s House Calls – America’s Most Requested Home Improvement Projects.&uot;

Now what are your chances of getting on the new show during Hazelton’s Natchez visit?

The project – how extensive it is and what time it is likely to take – will be Hazelton’s first consideration.

However, he will be looking for personality, Jackson said. &uot;Be explicit. The more we know, the more helpful it will be.&uot;

A scout for the program will be in the Natchez area sometime in the next couple of weeks to check any applications that look promising.

The house doctor travels in a large recreational vehicle that is outfitted with all his tools and equipment.

He arrives ready to work but expects the family to work along with him and to be a part of the segment as the work is being filmed, Jackson said.

The show airs on several networks, including ABC and Warner Brothers, she said.
