Rain cancels portions of ACCS meet

Although the rain forced the cancellation of much of the running events, Trinity and Adams County Christian School still had enough time to put together a solid showing at the ACCS Invitational Track Meet on Thursday at the ACCS Track.

Trinity and ACCS finished in a first-place tie overall in the varsity boys division with 62 points each.

Wilkinson County Christian Academy was third with 38 points.

ACCS’s varsity boys track team dominated the field events with four first-place finishers in six events.

Will Hinson won the pole vault with a jump of 12 feet. Brandon Jenson of WCCA was second with a jump of 10 feet, 6 inches.

Justin Thornton won two field events – the shot put with a throw of 42’10 1/2&uot;, and the discus with a throw of 117’9 1/2&uot;. Brandon Farrar of WCCA was second to Thornton in the shot put with a throw of 39’11&uot; and

Stephen Blaylock of ACCS won the high jump with a jump of 5’8&uot;.

Jeffrey Waycaster of Brookhaven Academy won the other two field events – the triple jump (37’10&uot;) and the long jump with a jump of 18’2 1/4&uot;.

Trinity’s Ryan Rachal finished second to Waycaster in the triple jump with a jump of 36’2&uot; and Matthew Bush of WCCA was third with a jump of 30’2&uot;.

Justin Stubblefield of Rebul Academy was second to Waycaster in the long jump (16’8 1/2&uot;), followed by Luke Rush of Tensas (16’4 1/2&uot;).

Arthur won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 45.43 seconds, followed by Trinity’s Mike Lickliter (48.69) and Blaylock (51.03).

The team of Cole Brown, Rachal, Ketchings and Ridley won two relay events for Trinity – the 800m relay (1:37.3) and the 400m relay (47.5).

Trinity’s other relay team, Rob Hefley, Richard Burke, Dunbar Flinn and Preston Sullivan, dominated the competition in the 3200m relay, winning in a time of 9:49.39, nearly a minute ahead of WCCA’s team of Harry Ford, Brent Starnes, Brantley Hall and Greg Bunch (10:34.7).

&uot;We’ve trained hard the last couple of weeks getting ready for district,&uot; said Trinity head track coach David King. &uot;The boys have been splitting time between baseball and track, as have I. I was proud of the way they hung in there.&uot; Huntington edged out ACCS for first place overall in the varsity girls division, 64 points to 60, despite only one first-place individual finish.

However Huntington had five second-place finishes – Stacey Rife in the discus (76’11&uot;), Tessa Taunton in the high jump (4’4&uot;), Jessi Moak in the 3200m run (14:51) and the relay team of Hazlip, Rachel Anders, Taunton and Candi Bennett in the 800m relay (2:04.7) and the 400m relay (58.42) – that helped it get the win.

For ACCS, Candace Duplechin won two field events – the discus (87’11 1/2&uot;) and the shot put (29’1 1/2&uot;), Tiffany Collier won the 300m hurdles (51.40) and the relay team of Casey Etheridge, Riana Flynn, Amy Mardis and Collier won the 800m relay (1:57.3) and the 400m relay (56.00).
