VICKSBURG – Led by a 16-strikeout performance from senior pitcher Mandy McGehee, the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs defeated St. Aloysius 12-5 Tuesday in Vicksburg in Division 6 softball action.
With the win, Franklin County (11-4, 8-0) won the Division 6 title for the second year in a row and also swept through the division for a second straight year.
St. Aloysius finished in second place in Division 6, losing only to Franklin County.
The Lady Bulldogs’ doubleheader at Morton that was scheduled for Wednesday was cancelled because it would have had no impact on the division standings.
Franklin County came back from a 3-1 deficit after two innings of play by scoring three runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings and scored two more runs in the seventh as the Lady Bulldogs pounded out 11 hits in the game.
It was not a pretty game, however, as both teams combined for 17 errors – nine by Franklin County, eight by St. Aloysius.
Franklin County will host the Division 5 runner-up in a best two-of-three series in the first round of the state playoffs starting at 5 p.m. Monday.
