James Leonard Higgs, 10 a.m., United Methodist Church of Vidalia,

La.

James Leonard Higgs

Feb. 16, 1928 – May 6, 2001

VIDALIA, La. – Services for James Leonard Higgs, 73, of Vidalia,

who died Monday, May 6, 2001, in Vidalia, will be at 10 a.m. today

at United Methodist Church of Vidalia with the Rev. Jonathan W.

Beck officiating.

Burial will be in the Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction

of Young’s Funeral Home of Vidalia.

Mr. Higgs was born Feb. 16, 1928, in Bearden, Ark.

He was a cementer for Halliburton Company for 25 years and

a member of Vidalia United Methodist Church. He had been employed

by Louisiana Office of Conservation for 15 years and retired in

1995. He was a 1947 graduate of El Dorado (Ark.) High School and

served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954.

Higgs was preceded in death by his father, Charles L. Higgs;

his mother, Sarah F. Higgs; and one sister, Genurl Harris.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Williams Higgs of Vidalia;

one daughter, Vicki Higgs Carroll of San Diego; one son, Gary

L. Higgs of Baton Rouge; one brother, Grady A. Higgs of El Dorado;

two granddaughters, Kelli Carroll and Tori Carroll of San Diego;

one grandson, Jeffrey J. Higgs of Baton Rouge; one nephew, Nolen

Harris of Camden, Ark.; one great nephew, Craig Rowland of Louisville,

Colo.; two nieces, Becky Fitzhugh of Little Rock, Ark. and Penny

Harris of Louisville; and two great nieces, Natalie Harris and

Krista Harris of Camden, Ark.

Pallbearers will be George Bonner, Hyram Copeland, Buzz Craft,

Hoss Davis, Ray King and George Nasif.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Craft, Jerry Craft, Leigh

King, Jack McLemore Sr., Clarence Sharpe, Rick Kennedy, David

King, John Butler and Buddy Spillers.

Albert Conners Jr.

June 16, 1956 – May 5, 2001

UNION CHURCH – Services for Albert Conners Jr., who died on

Saturday, May 5, 2001, will be at 1:30 p.m., at Hickory Block

United Methodist Church with the Rev. F. L. Pendelton officiating.

Interment will follow at Hickory Block Cemetery with Spencer

Funeral Home directing.

Conners was a life long member of Hickory Block Church and

was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Conners of Fayette; and

one brother, Charlie Glass.

He is survived by his mother, Luella Glass; one brother, Johnny

Glass, a stepdaughter, Lekita McDonald of Fayette; three aunts,

Willie B. Stallworth of Texas, Audrey Griggs of Chicago and Margie

Upshaw of Illinois; one uncle, L.D. Hawkins of Chicago, a nephew;

a close family member, James &uot;Shine&uot; Washington; and

friends and family, including, J.W. &uot;Bug&uot; Glass, Dan

Glass, Bubba Barnes and B.C. Young; and a number of neices, nephews

and friends.

Pallbearers will be J. W. Glass, Bubba Barnes, Michael Wallace,

Daniel Glass, Kenneth Lowe, and Jerry Wallace.

Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Glass, Calvin Winston,

B.C. Young, Darriet Fleming, Charles Wallace, and Nelson Stallworth.

Birdie Mae Hedrick Gordon

March 6, 1916 – May 8, 2001

EVA, La. – Services for Birdie Mae Hedrick Gordon, 85, of Monterey,

who died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at Riverland Medical Center in

Ferriday, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Eva Church of God

with the Revs. Tim Taylor and Lloyd Trisler officiating.

Burial will be in the Hedrick Cemetery in Eva under the direction

of Comer Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

She was born March 6, 1916, in Eva, the daughter of Monroe

and Mary Emma C. Hedrick.

She was a life long resident of Concordia Parish, a homemaker

and a member of the Eva Church of God.

Gordon was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank

H. Gordon; a daughter, Emilee Feierabend; and two great-grandchildren.

Survivors include four daughters, Marilyn G. Frith of Mansfield,

Peggy Moncrief of Vidalia, Phyllis Dean Hamilton of Eva and Paula

Gordon of Baton Rouge; one brother, Jacob Hedrick of Eva; one

sister, Ethel Bradford of Monterey; eight grandchildren, Gary

Frith, Corky Frith, Lana Clark, Terry Frith, Ricky Moncrief, Randy

Moncrief, Don Hamilton and Jodie Patterson; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Funeral arrangements for the Rev. Walter Logan Sr., 77, of

Natchez, who died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Natchez Community Hospital,

are incomplete at George F. West Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements for Terry Laurant, 50, of Natchez, who

died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at Medical City of Dallas, are incomplete
