Miss-Lou baseball players will get a rare opportunity to work with a NCAA Division I coaching staff when Vidalia High School hosts a baseball camp on Tuesday and Wednesday.
&uot;Corky Palmer (Southern Miss head coach) and his staff have agreed to come and work the camp,&uot; Vidalia skipper Johnny Lee Hoffpauir said. &uot;This area has a lot of great young baseball players, and this will give them an opportunity to work on the fundamentals with a very knowledgeable staff. It will also give some of the older kids a chance to be seen. It really is rare to be able to get a college coach to come in and do a camp like this.&uot;
The camp will have two sessions each day. In the morning campers age 7-12 will work from 9 a.m. until noon. The afternoon session, for campers age 13 up to seniors in high school will work from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.
&uot;It should really be a good camp,&uot; Hoffpauir said. &uot;Southern Miss has a strong fan base here in the Natchez area.&uot;
Registration for the two-day camp will be held 30 minutes prior to the start of each session.
The cost of the camp is $55, and the price includes a T-shirt and refreshments provided by the Vidalia Women’s Club.
&uot;With all the rain in the past couple of days it has been hard to get around to the various youth league parks to get the word out,&uot; Hoffpauir said. &uot;I hope all the young players will register, because it really is a unique opportunity.&uot;
