Several players from Skip Bertman’s final LSU team will be in Ferriday this week to help Huntington’s Mitch Ashmore with his third annual baseball camp.

&uot;We try and bring in different people every year, and it just so happened that LSU worked out this year,&uot; Ashmore said. &uot;These guys (Chris Soileau, Billy Brian, Bo Pettit and Chad Vaught) have been in the top program in the country, and they are all pitchers expected to play a major role for LSU next year. I feel like they will have a lot to offer to our campers.&uot;

The camp will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday at the Huntington baseball field, and Ashmore said he expects numbers similar to his previous camps.

&uot;I started this camp because people were taking their children to these big camps, and they are kind of impersonal,&uot; Ashmore said. &uot;We have about 80 kids each year, and with that number all the campers get a chance to really work on their fundamentals with the staff.&uot;

The success of the camp has been a surprise to some, but Ashmore said he expected it go over well with area players. &uot;The first year people said we would never be able to draw that many, but when you bring in people like these players from LSU, people will come.&uot;

Cost of the camp is $50. For more information call Mitch Ashmore at (318) 757 – 6566.
