Thirteen area youngsters are getting some expert advice on the game of golf at a local summer camp.
Mark Powell, the club pro at Beau Pre’ Country Club, has hosted a summer camp at the club for the past several years.
&uot;This is the seventh year we have done this,&uot; Powell said. &uot;In past years we have taught tennis and archery, this year the focus is on golf.&uot;
The reason for the emphasis on golf at this year’s camp is simple, an abundance of experience.
Powell is a certified PGA professional, and he has on the camp staff Tricia Brooks, Beau Pre’ teaching professional, along with Bruce Bell, a Mississippi State University PGM intern.
&uot;The campers are between the age of 10 and 15, and it really is a great group,&uot; Powell said. &uot;They all have been very attentive.&uot;
Powell said the instruction has focused on seven areas – putting, chipping, bunker play, irons, pitching, woods and even golf etiquette.
&uot;We are trying to give them a more complete view of the game,&uot; Powell said.
