A veteran broke into tears recently when Tommy Quinn talked to him about a musical Parkway Baptist Church is doing this month.
&uot;I think a lot of us my age and under – we don’t really understand what it meant and what they did for us,&uot; said the church’s minister of music.
The church’s choir will perform the musical, America! A Pilgrim’s Prayer … A Patriot’s Dream, at 6:15 p.m. June 24 as an advance celebration for July 4.
The musical will honor all branches of the service with a variety of music.
&uot;A lot of the musicals that you see sometimes are just patriotic songs but this has a whole segment of Christian songs that are in there.&uot; Quinn said.
The program will also include a slideshow to coincide with the music.
Often churches just ask veterans to stand on patriotic holiday so the idea of the musical is to honor veterans in a more meaningful way. &uot;I just felt led to go in this direction with the musical,&uot; said Quinn adding that he has wanted to do a musical of this type for some time.
Now with the performance almost upon him, Quinn said is has been a meaningful experience.
&uot; It’s probably one of the most moving things I’ve ever done,&uot; he said.
And hopefully the musical will help veterans see people appreciate what they did for their country.
&uot; That’s one of the reason why we’re doing it,&uot; Quinn said.
The musical will take place at Parkway Baptist Church and the community is invited to attend.
