Sinkhole repairs under way

After years of rain, including the more than 10 inches left by Tropical Storm Allison, a faulty storm drain system on Highland Boulevard finally made its presence known early this week when it caved in nearly 10 feet near the intersection of Pecan Way, according to contractors.
Contractors – who are reconstructing the system – say the drain pipe, which feeds into a drain box, separated and water wasn’t flowing into the box properly.
&uot;We had to dig 25-feet to get to the box,&uot; David Baroni of Camo Construction said. &uot;We’re going to set the pipe shallower this time than it was before.&uot;
Baroni said a few vehicles hit the sinkhole Monday before it caved to dangerous levels, but no injuries or accidents were reported.
Charles Rhoades, a nearby neighbor, said he was worried about his property, which runs along Highland Boulevard.
&uot;When it started getting bigger, I got worried about my house,&uot; he said. &uot;I just home the dirt under my house didn’t get washed out, too.&uot;
