‘Comeback Kids’ force another game

The Natchez Rebel League All-Star team could also be called &uot;The Comeback Kids&uot; after making two comebacks while facing elimination in the 2001 Dixie Youth AAA West Sub-District Tournament at Ballew-Bowlin Field.

In the championship game, the Natchez Rebel team came back from an 8-0 first-inning deficit to defeat the Franklin County All-Stars in dramatic fashion, 11-10.

Trailing 10-7 after five innings of play, the Natchez Rebel All-Stars scored four runs in the top of the sixth.

&uot;It’s all about hitting the ball,&uot; said Natchez Rebel coach Allen Dossett. &uot;We hit the ball real well.&uot;

Chas Moroney pitched two scoreless and no-hit innings to pick up the win.

The Natchez Rebel All-Stars advanced to the championship game by overcoming a 13-2 first-inning deficit to eliminate the Natchez Confederate All-Stars 21-17.

After allowing three runs in the first inning, Jordan Dossett held the Natchez Confederate team to only four runs and four hits.

The key innings for the Natchez Rebel team were the fourth and fifth innings as it outscored the Natchez Confederate team 13-2 to take the lead for good at 20-17.

Dossett pitched five and two-thirds solid innings to get the win.

The Natchez Rebel All-Stars will face the Franklin County All-Stars at 7 p.m. today at Ballew-Bowlin Field.
