The Natchez Rebel League All Stars’ tear through the sub-district tournament ended last night with an 8-4 loss to Franklin County.

&uot;We had a really great run,&uot; said Rebel League coach Allen Dossett. &uot;No one expected us to win. No one expected us to win both game of the doubleheader the other night.&uot;

The Rebel League’s postseason play started out rather poorly. After losing two straight games in the city championship to the Confederate League All Stars, the Rebel League finally topped them in first round action.

The club then dropped a 13-3 decision to Franklin County. But after falling behind 13-2 in the first inning to the Confederate League, the Rebel League rallied to win that game 21-17.

And after trailing Franklin County in Tuesday’s game, they came back to win 11-10 to force a championship game.

But the magic ran out last night.

&uot;We had our chance to win,&uot; Dossett said. &uot;We just couldn’t put together back-to-back hits.&uot;

The Rebel League jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a Jordan Dossett single. But Franklin County notched three runs in the second inning on a pair of walks and an error.

Franklin County pitcher Colton Laird set down seven straight Rebel League batters until the fourth inning.

Kent King reached on an error and Jeb White walked. Jess Dossett then chased king home with a single, and Daniel Jenkins – who had 12 runs batted in two games on Tuesday – knocked in White with an RBI-groundout to tie the game at 3-3.

Franklin County did its damage in the bottom of the fourth. After an error and two walks, Cody Hudson slapped a double to score two runs. Ryan Holland then single to right field to score two more runs.

The Rebel League loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the sixth, but Laird got a groundout to the third baseman to end the game.

&uot;We ran out of gas,&uot; Dossett said. &uot;They made some great plays. What could we do?&uot;
