A section of Canal Street will be closed this week for the construction of the Natchez Convention Center.

Canal Street between Main and Franklin streets will be closed from Monday through Wednesday so contractors can work on underground utilities.

The work involves building a trench under Canal Street for drainage purposes.

Detour signs have been posted to help motorists avoid the closed section of road, said David Gardner, city engineer.
