Four suspects charged in fatal hit and run

JONESVILLE, La. – Four people have been charged in connection with the July 3 hit and run accident in which a Texas man died after being struck on Louisian 15 in Catahoula Parish.

Eliberto Conteras, 65, died at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport from injuries sustained in the crash.

Bobby M. Cooper, 21, of Marerro, was charged with felony hit and run driving. He had not been physically taken into custody late Tuesday afternoon.

Decarlos L. Jordan, 18, of Sicily Island, was charged with accessory after the fact felony hit and run. He was booked into the Catahoula Parish Jail on a $10,000 bond.

James Hilliard Jr., 19 of Sicily Island, was charged with accessory after the fact felony hit and run. Hilliard was booked into the Catahoula Parish Jail on a $10,000 bond.

A 15-year-old juvenile, also of Sicily Island was charged with accessory after the fact felony hit and run. The juvenile was released to his parents.

Louisiana State Police investigators said in a release Tuesday the investigation was helped by a weekend telephone call from the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

According to the release, Emma Hilliard had questioned her son about the damage to her 1988 Ford Taurus. She called the Sicily Island police.

Sicily Island officers called in Concordia sheriff’s detectives.

According to the release, Mrs. Hilliard voluntarily gave permission for troopers to examine the car.

Louisiana State Police Crime Lab technicians examined the car and positively matched evidence left at the scene with the damage on the Ford Taurus, the release stated.

Other charges may be made pending completion of the investigation, state police said.
