The Concordia 13-year-old Dixie Boys All-Stars’ visions of a berth in the state tourney ended last night with a 6-4 loss to Ostenland.
But the game might have been lost two nights ago versus East Ouachita. The team was leading 10-9 late in the game with a runner on third base. Then the scoreboard went out. Coach Jerry Roberts asked the umpires how many outs there were. The home plate and one of the field umpires told him their were two outs. Concordia’s pitcher struck out the next batter, making it what should have been the third out. Concordia ran off the field.
East Ouchita sent the runner at third to the plate. The umpire called him safe. After conferring with the official scorekeeper, the umpires ruled that there was really one out. Despite Roberts arguments, the umpires counted the run, tying the game. East Ouachita won the game in extra innings.
&uot;We left it on the field with that call,&uot; said Roberts. &uot;We had no emotion (last night).&uot;
Roberts added, &uot;Had we not have that call, we would have won (last night).&uot;
