A human skeleton was found hanging from a tree Saturday night in rural Adams County.
&uot;We did find an unidentified skeletal remains hanging from a tree in the Garden City area,&uot; Adams County Coroner James Lee confirmed late Saturday night. &uot;The body was completely decomposed.&uot;
&uot;An autopsy will be performed at the state crime lab,&uot; Lee said. &uot;I’ll begin to search dental records immediately.&uot;
The autopsy should be performed sometime today, Lee said. He said prior to the autopsy, there was no way to tell exactly how long the skeleton had been exposed to the weather. However, Lee’s estimated that time to be about a week and a half.
The skeleton was hanging by a rope, Lee said, but did not want to give further details.
Lee would not say exactly where the body was found, referring such questions to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
Repeated attempts to contact investigators with the sheriff’s office went unanswered.
Lee did say the body was hanging from a tree &uot;out in the woods&uot; and not close to any house.
Garden City is a heavily wooded, remote area in the southeast corner of Adams County.
The area is part of the Homochitto&160;National Forest and the Sandy Creek Wildlife Management Area.
