The front cover of a state school magazine may portray some familiar faces for Natchez residents.
Because of their history of earning superior ratings, the members of the Natchez High School Choir received special recognition in a yearly magazine printed by the Mississippi High School Activities Association.
In addition to the cover photo, a page of the magazine pays tribute to the choir and its accomplishments.
&uot; We’re consistently rated superior at district and state festivals within Mississippi that are sponsored by the Mississippi High School Activities Association,&uot; said Joyce Arceneaux, choral director. The annual magazine featured pictures of the first place winners in all school activities for the past year. This includes athletic activities, such as Natchez High School’s girls’ track team, and also the names of high performing bands choirs and the winners of other awards.
Because many choirs or bands can earn superior ratings in a year, the magazine lists the names of all those that perform at that level.
&uot; We’ve been listed over here many many years,&uot; Arceneaux said while pointing to list of superior-rated choirs.
Of the 154 high school choirs registered with the Mississippi High School Activities Association, the magazine gives added emphasis each year to one that has long history of superior ratings. That was the Natchez High School Choir in this year’s edition.
&uot; They had to have earned superior ratings for a number of years and its really based on that and the dedication and support that the choir has giving the high school association,&uot; said Billie Thompson, with the Mississippi High School Activities Association.
