The Natchez Democrat
Cathedral High’s varsity soccer teams showed very little signs
of rust despite playing for the first time in 12 days against
their last opponent, Natchez High, Saturday at D’Evereaux Stadium.
&160;
Erica Rollins had 33 saves in 33 opportunities and Joanna Stubbs’
goal early in the second half broke a scoreless game as the Lady
Green Wave defeated the Lady Bulldogs 3-0.
Tamantha Fleming and Leslie Patrick had 26 of Natchez’s (2-3)
35 shots on goal in the game, but Rollins kept the ball out of
the goal.
&uot;Erica has been our MVP, our player of the game,&uot;said
Cathedral coach Rocky Kettering. &uot;She’s played tremendously
so far.&uot;
Stubbs scored with 33:03 remaining in the second half with
an assist from Bridget O’Brien.
Sarah Powers and Kate Reid later scored in the second half
for the final margin of victory.
Cathedral’s boys team spotted Natchez an early 1-0 lead then
scored five straight goals of its own en route to a 7-2 win.
Chris Hughes had a hand in both goals for Natchez (1-4), first
scoring just 1:02 into the game and then with an assist on a goal
by Wesley Davis in the second half.
