VIDALIA, La. – Both the Vidalia boys and girls teams improved
to 3-0 Tuesday night, and both did so in similar ways – by overpowering
their opponent in the second half.
&160;
The Vikings put away the Sicily Island Tigers 83-50, and the
Lady Vikings won going away 47-28.
Ajay Warner and Tony Hawkins poured in 24 and 22 points, respectively
as the host Vikings exploded in the third quarter to end all doubts
with a 25-10 run.
&uot;Once we determined that Sicily Island was going to sit
back and shoot threes, then we began to attack and cover them,&uot;
VHS head coach Robert Sanders said. &uot; We’ve got some guys
just coming out of football, so we’re still sort of looking for
chemistry.&uot; It certainly didn’t appear to the crowd on hand
that there were any of those type problems, as Hawkins fueled
the early third quarter outburst, scoring 14 points in the frame.
Jessie Banks added 10 and Josh Bush pumped in eight more down
low in a contest that wasn’t close after the 35-29 halftime lead.
Gary Washington was the leading scorer for the tigers with 15
points.
It was a a far cry from the Monday night game that saw Vidalia
struggle to hold off a pesky Davidson squad, 60-53. Hawkins also
had the hot hand in that one, posting 15, while Bush and Banks
had 13 and 10, respectively.

The Lady Vikings overcame a sluggish second quarter and put
away the Lady Tigers, by out scoring them 36-12 over the final
two frames. Ramona Washington proved to be an unstoppable force,
scoring 19 points. Shemica Williams also had a good night with
13, while Katrina Stapleton added eight. LaToya Burden
The same thing applied to the Lady Vikings Monday night road
game at Davidson. VHS had to overcome a torrid second quarter
from the host Lady Warriors and hold them off in a wild finish,
winning 66-65.
The offense ran through Dominque Trimble on this night as she
paced the attack with 19. Katrina Singleton added 17 and Washington
scored nine.
Concepsion Gray kept DHS in it with 17 points. Gemecia Williams
and Lashundia Mitchell each had six.
The Vikings will host the Ronnie Brown Memorial Tournament
beginning next Thursday.
