Powell and Jordan Farmer shot a 15-under-par 57 for a one-shot

win in the 2001 Beau Pr\u00E9 MGA-LGA Scramble Sunday afternoon

at Beau Pre Country Club.

Farmer had an eagle on the 18th hole that gave the team the

win.

&uot;We hit it to the back of the green,&uot; he said. &uot;And

everybody was chipping for it and putted it. It had a lot of brake

on it.&uot;

That was one of two eagles for the winning team to go with

11 birdies.

&uot;I had an eagle chip on No. 5 from about 20 yards out,&uot;

Betsy Powell said. &uot;I’ve never done that before. It wrapped

around the hole and went in on the back. It was really neat.&uot;

&uot;It went real well,&uot; Mark Powell said.

The team of Lloyd Trisler, Iley Dillon, Rip Lovitt and Cherly

Dillon had the clubhouse lead at 14-under-par 58. That lead lasted

about 10 minutes.

&uot;We had generally just had a good round,&uot; Iley Dillon

said. &uot;Everyone contributed. We were hitting the ball close

to the hole and making good putts.&uot;

The team of David Harris, Bub Mullins, Billy Gillon and Lucius

Butts finished third at 12-under-par 60.

&uot;David Harris made all the shots. We just carried his

bags for him,&uot; Gillon said.

The team of Jim Pendergrast, Forest Persons, Phil Hale and

Tom Kolb was the first team to complete its round – before 4:30

p.m. and more than 20 minutes before the next team finished its

round – and finished at 9-under-par 63.

&uot;It was a lot of fun,&uot; Kolb said.

The Pendergrast-Persons-Hale-Kolb team finished tied for fourth

place with the team of Bill Lambert, Mike Cook, Bob Latham and

Alan Coley.

The Lambert-Cook-Latham-Coley team, which started on No. 2,

was only at 4-under-par after 13 holes, then birdied their last

five holes, starting on the 15th hole and ending on the 1st hole,

for its 63.

The team of Tricia Brooks, Tommy Geoghegan, Wayne Potter and

Baxter Lee finished in sixth place with an 8-under-par 64.
