NATCHEZ – In just a matter of weeks, the Miss-Lou community will show its patriotism from atop the Mississippi River Bridge.
Thanks to the fund-raising efforts of Natchez resident Pam Frank and the Natchez-Adams Chamber of Commerce, a 20-feet by 30-feet American flag was purchased to fly between the two bridges connecting Natchez and Vidalia.
&uot;It’s very exciting,&uot; Frank said.
The flag cost close to $700 and had to be specially ordered.
Since October, Frank said she has raised about $1,700 for the project.
Frank said she would spend the extra money to buy a replacement flag for the bridge. It will also finance any money needed to pay for the cost of hanging the flag and to buy a number of smaller flags for the community.
The bridge flag is currently undergoing alterations so it can be suspended between the two bridges, she said.
The work should be completed by Dec. 15, and the flag should be flown the following week.
&uot;I think it’ll mean a lot (to have this flag),&uot; Frank said.
It represents unity and everyone standing together, she said.
Frank decided to raise money for this flag after seeing how other communities decorated after Sept. 11.
&uot;I think it’s going to be real rewarding,&uot; Frank said of fund-raising. &uot;It’s a self-rewarding feeling that I was able to do this.&uot;
Anyone who would like to make a donation to the Bridge Flag Fund can do so at Concordia Bank in Vidalia.
