Wilkinson County eases past Port Gibson Blue Waves

WOODVILLE – Wilkinson County’s varsity basketball teams swept Port Gibson Friday night in non-district action, with the Wildcats winning a thriller in overtime.
Wildcats 70, Blue Waves 69 (OT) Wilkinson County (5-4) outscored Port Gibson 15-10 in the fourth quarter to force overtime and 10-9 in the extra frame to pull out the win. Port Gibson jumped out to a 21-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Wilkinson County scored 24 points in the second quarter and trailed by only three points, 39-36, at halftime.
Byrant Spiller led Wilkinson County with 14 points and Lawarren Seiber added 13 points. Port Gibson’s Ocie Brown led all scorers with 23 points. Benny Howard and Antwan Jones added 10 points apiece for the Blue Waves.
Lady Wildcats 66, Lady Blue Waves 48 This one was not as dramatic as the boys game, as the Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 22-11 lead after one quarter and 38-22 at halftime en route to an easy win.
Rosalyn Lacey led a balanced scoring attack for the Lady Wildcats (3-6) with 17 points. Clarissa Lewis had 12 points and Samantha Sherman chipped in with 11 points.
Catrona Thornton led the Lady Blue Waves with 17 points and Muniray White added 15 points. Wilkinson County next hosts Franklin County next Tuesday night.
