Adams County and Trinity Episcopal notch sweeps on road

ST. JOSEPH, La. – Adams County Christian School’s varsity basketball teams came away with a sweep of Briarfield Academy Friday night to advance to the finals of the Tensas Tournament.

In the varsity girls game, the Lady Rebels pulled away from a close game with a dominating third quarter en route to a 65-45 win. Nikki Hankins and Heather Holloway had 11 points each, and Krystal Truitt added 10 points for the Lady Rebels (5-6). ACCS led Briarfield (2-5) by only four points, 30-24, at halftime, then pulled away by outscoring Briarfield 21-5 in the third quarter. The Lady Rebels will play against Tensas in the girls finals at 5:30 p.m. today. In the varsity boys game, the Rebels overcame a slow start to get a come-from-behind 62-56 win over Briarfield. Christopher Rayborn scored a game-high 29 points and Glenn Williams added 10 points for the Rebels. ACCS (2-6) trailed Briarfield 13-9 after one quarter of play, then stormed back in the second quarter to tie the score at 30 at halftime. The Rebels outscored Briarfield (1-7) by three points in the final two quarters to come away with the win. The Rebels go up against Tensas in the boys finals at 7 p.m. today. Trinity sweeps Amite School Center LIBERTY – Trinity Episcopal’s varsity basketball teams remained undefeated in MPSA District 5-1A with a pair of wins over Amite School Center Friday night. In varsity girls action, the Lady Saints cruised to a 55-20 win over the Lady Rebels. Vanessa Gordon had 17 points and nine rebounds, Becky Bass had 14 points, five rebounds and seven steals, Ashley Kingsafer had 11 points and six rebounds, and Lauren Tanner had nine points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Saints (7-1, 4-0). The Lady Saints held the Lady Rebels to four points in the first quarter and only one in the second quarter as they took a 29-5 halftime lead. The Lady Rebels actually outscored the Lady Saints 15-10 in the third quarter, only to be shut out in the fourth quarter. Mindy Seay led the Lady Rebels with 10 points. Saints 68, Rebels 30 Dudley Guice had 19 points and 15 rebounds and Gregory Ketchings added 11 points and seven assists for the Saints (4-0, 4-0). Chad Ridley had 11 rebounds, eight assists and six steals to go with eight points. The score was tied at 11 before the Saints put the game away with a 24-point second quarter for a 35-22 halftime lead. Bradley Blalock led the Rebels with 12 points. Trinity Episcopal next plays at Wilkinson County Christian Academy today.
