After slow start, both teams piecing together wins
FERRIDAY, La. – Don’t look now, but after taking their lumps in the first stages of the 2001-02 basketball season, the Huntington Hounds and Lady Hounds are getting on a bit of a roll.
Tuesday’s sweep of the hapless Pine Hills Wildcats, improved coach Penny Moak’s squad to 7-7 overall, winners of four straight. Coach Michael McAnally’s hounds are 7-4 on the year and have won seven straight games. Both the girls and guys are sporting spotless 5-0 marks in District 5-A.

A 32-2 first frame was all that was needed as Emily Hazlip’s 21 points and eight rebounds paced the hot-shooting attack.
Tiffany Ferguson added 12 points and Lindsay Wagoner came through with a half dozen and eight boards.
Against the winless Wildcats, the girls team shot 42 percent. “We had been struggling with tough teams earlier in the year, but now, it seems to be coming together for us, hopefully at the right time,” Moak said. Sarah Ashmore dished out five assists to go with five points.
Raven Adams led Pine Hills in scoring with 8.

The nightcap was equally one-sided with the Hounds running the floor and bolting out to an 18-2 lead.
Things didn’t get much better for Pine Hills, who only managed four points in the frame to the Hounds’ 25. Jordan Owens’ 20-point effort proved to be the catalyst for the host team.
Josh Johns added 10 and Doug Miller also contributed to the rout with nine. Other scorers for Huntington were Adam Trevillion with eight and Todd Iverstine collected seven. “Playing a tough schedule early on, seems to have given us some confidence.” McAnally said.
Friday Huntington’s squads will have a chance to avenge earlier losses when they travel to face Central Private.
