TALLULAH, La. – The Huntington Lady Hounds went 2-0 in the Tallulah Tournament with a 62-40 win over the Prairie View Academy Lady Spartans Friday afternoon.

The win was the Lady Hounds’ eighth in their last nine games as they improved their overall record to 9-8.

Emily Hazlip led Huntington with a game-high 20 points. Lindsay Wagoner added 10 points.

The Lady Spartans tried to stay in the game with the Lady Hounds, trailing 17-10 at the end of the first quarter.

That’s as close as Prairie View would get to the lead the rest of the way.

The Lady Hounds held the Lady Spartans to four points in both the second and third quarters en route to a 51-18 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Prairie View outscored Huntington 22-11 in the fourth quarter, but the outcome of the game was never in doubt.

Jessica Hendrix led the Lady Spartans with 15 points.

The Lady Hounds play Briarfield at 1 p.m. Thursday in the first round of the Briarfield Tournament in Lake Providence, La., followed by the boys game.

Offensive rebounding was the key in the Spartans’ win as they scored 19 points off 23 offensive rebounds.

&uot;That’s way too many offensive rebounds to give up,&uot; said Hounds head coach Michael McAnally.

Huntington hit 20-of-55 shots from the field – an improvement from its 13-for-57 performance in its 50-36 loss to River Oaks Thursday.

Josh Johns led Huntington with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Barrett Arthur added 14 points and Todd Iverstine had 10 points.
