NATCHEZ &045; If you didn’t get enough of U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering and state Supreme Court Justice-elect Jess Dickinson during their recent campaigns, you’ll have another chance to hear them Monday at the Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce 2002 annual membership dinner.

Although the event has a history of getting big-name speakers, chairwoman Janet Sullivan said it was quite a coup to get Pickering and Dickinson.

&uot; We’re very, very fortunate to get both of them together,&uot; she said.

Politicians always have underlying motives for whatever they do, but Sullivan said she thought Natchez’ charm and hospitality were enough to lure the two state politicos.

&uot; There’s always something very alluring about coming to Natchez &045; for everyone,&uot; Sullivan said.

But man cannot live on rhetoric alone. The event is a dinner, and a delicious dinner will be served.

&uot; We’re having prime rib with all the trimmings,&uot; Sullivan said.

While guests enjoy the food, the chamber will give out its yearly batch of awards to Natchezians who have distinguished themselves in the community.

The ATHENA Award, affiliated with the international organization of the same name, goes to women who made contributions through business or community-related projects.

&uot; The award this year is going to someone who has dedicated a lot of time to community service,&uot; chamber Director Laura Godfrey said.

The Natchezian and Business of the Year awards are self-explanatory. The latter will go to one of the chamber’s four quarterly recipients: Blankenstein’s Supplies and Equipment, Big M Supply Co., McRae’s or Great River Olds Nissan Chevrolet.

The chamber has also added Teacher of the Year to its list of awards this year.

The dinner begins at 7 p.m. Monday in the Nashville Room at the Natchez Convention Center. There is a reception at 6 p.m. Tickets are $35 for chamber members and $45 for non-members.

Sullivan said a few sponsorships are still left at $500 for a reception sponsorship and $1,000 for a dinner sponsorship.
