FERRIDAY, La. &045; At least the Ferriday Trojans are going into the holiday break knowing what they need to improve.

Not that it was any fun finding out, but the quick and athletic Davidson Warriors showed them the way in an 84-70 win over the Trojans Monday night in Ferriday.

The Warriors have plenty of quickness, and they kept driving the ball inside on the Trojans &045; with Tyrrence Taylor and William Woodruff inside who are both big on size but small on experience.

While standouts in football, both are in their first season on the hardwood.

&uot;Davidson is a good ball club,&uot; Ferriday head coach James Davis said. &uot;They’re well-coached. They don’t give up, and they’re constantly putting pressure on the ball. That was the difference in the game. If we can stop turning the ball over and develop an inside game, we’ll be all right. Hopefully things will improve before we get to district.&uot;

Things appeared to be improving in the second half after the Trojans (6-8) cut the lead to seven at one point in the third quarter after trailing by 10 at one point in the first half.

Things started to unravel a bit in the third but more so in the fourth quarter. Holding a 61-56 lead heading into the fourth quarter, the Warriors outscored Ferriday 23-14 in the fourth quarter to close it out.

The Warriors never strayed from their 2-3 press, and the Trojans seemed like they could never quite get it right.

&uot;We had too many turnovers, to be honest with you,&uot; Davis said. &uot;They had a full-court press, and we turned the ball over constantly. After we made a run, we ended up making turnovers again. For some reason we can’t hold our composure. My kids played hard, but you don’t have to play so hard if you take care of the ball.&uot;

Davidson took a 22-20 lead by the end of the first quarter thanks to a buzzer-beater from midcourt by Travis Davis, who tossed it up immediately after coming up with a steal.

Davis led Davidson with 27 points. Ferriday’s top scorers were Chris Watson with 24.

Three meetings within a week against struggling Davidson resulted in another blowout win for the Lady Trojans (15-0).

Ferriday went to its press early and took a 28-4 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Monique Jones led the Lady Trojans with 16 points.

Latasha Cain had 15, and LaShawnda Pryor had 12.

Both Ferriday teams return to action Jan. 2 in the Sicily Island tournament.
