FERRIDAY, La. &045; They say that idle hands are the devil’s plaything, and the devil always seems to get a lot of toys during the Christmas holidays when kids are away from school.
On Tuesday, the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office got a call from a Doty Road resident whose mailbox had been destroyed. The responding deputy found two other damaged mailboxes nearby.
Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Kathleen Stevens said there are no suspects at this time, but mailbox smashing is a crime most often committed by shiftless male juveniles.
On April 3, two 16-year-olds were arrested for a weeklong vandalism spree during which they demolished approximately 125 mailboxes.
The teens were found guilty in a closed juvenile hearing and are awaiting sentencing by Judge Leo Boothe.
While the Doty Road vandals’ toll is much lower than what happened in the spring, destruction of a mailbox is a federal offense. As such, mailbox vandals are subject to prison time.
Anyone who has information regarding the vandalism on Doty Road is asked to contact the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office at 336-5231.
