Green Wave goes to OT to edge McComb again

MCCOMB &045; Cathedral’s Green Wave soccer team controlled the overtime periods to take a 3-2 win over Class 4A McComb Tuesday.

Both teams had two goals at the end of regulation, and rules call for the two teams to play two 10-minute periods in their entirety.

The Green Wave (7-0) got two goals in each of the periods, although the game goes down in the books as a one-goal victory. John Paul Kenda hit the first goal, and Blas Gaud came up with the second one on an assist from Wyler Murray.

Palmer Rinehart had both goals in the second OT.

Nick Anderson scored the first goal in regulation for Cathedral on an assist from Rinehart. A minute later McComb (8-3) got a goal from Ryan Causey to tie it up.

Anderson returned the favor late in the first half on a pass to Rinehart, who put it in the net for a 2-1 lead.

McComb got a goal late in the second half to tie it up.

The Lady Wave, meanwhile, dropped a 3-1 decision to McComb. Cathedral (2-5) got its lone goal in the second half from Adrian Mullins after McComb took a 2-0 halftime lead.

McComb’s two goals in the first half came from Tiffany Shacklefoot and Brittnei Sullivan on a direct kick.
