Braves get back on track with victory; Lady Braves win big

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) &045; Starting forward Brian Jackson scored 21 points and grabbed four rebounds in Alcorn State’s 74-68 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday.
Dion Callans led Alcorn State (9-16, 7-6 SWAC) with 13 rebounds, scoring 4 points and going 2-9 from the field. Jackson went 8-13 from the field, 2-4 from the 3-point line and 3-4 from the foul line.
Pine Bluff (2-21, 2-11 SWAC) was down by six at the break, but battled back in the second half. The team matched Alcorn State’s 42 points in the second half, but it wasn’t enough for the win.
UAPB was led by three players in the double digits, including Brandon Jones with 16, and Lamarquis Blake and Melvin Bell each with 12. Jones went 5-of-7 from the foul line.
The Golden Lion’s Kory McKee received a technical foul.
Alcorn women 72, UAPB 51
The Lady Braves (14-8, 8-4) stayed in the running for the top spots in the Southwestern Athletic Conference standings by taking the season sweep of the Lady Lions Monday night.
The Lady Braves jumped out to a 34-20 lead on UAPB (3-18, 2-10) at halftime as the Lady Lions shot a paltry 37 percent (10 of 27) from the floor.
Alcorn finished it off in the second half and ended up hitting 15 of 17 shots from the free throw line.
Tnonealyer Powers led the Lady Braves with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
