Eight people sentenced during Sixth Circuit spring term

LIBERTY &045; Eight defendants were sentenced by Sixth Circuit Judge Forrest A. Johnson during the spring term of court in Amite County, according to records filed in the circuit clerk’s office.
Six defendants entered guilty pleas, while two defendants were convicted after jury trials.
A synopsis of the court action:
4Malcom Miller pled guilty to one count of manufacture of a schedule II controlled substance, methamphetamine, and one count of possession of two or more precursor chemicals or drugs with intent to manufacture a controlled substance.
Miller was sentenced to 10 years in state prison on each count, with the sentences to run concurrently.
The court further ordered that after one year, the balance of nine years will be suspended, and Miller will be placed on five years probation and required to pay a $3,000 fine and court costs.
4Clyde B. Caston pled guilty to possession of a schedule II controlled substance, methamphetamine (more than .10 gram, but less than 2.0 grams). Caston was sentenced to five years in state prison. Upon successful completion of one year in the Intensive Supervison Program, the court ordered that Caston serve the remaining four years of his term on probation and pay a $1,000 fine.
4Latonya Renee Sims pled guilty to burglary of a storehouse. Sims was sentenced to five years in state prison. The court retained jurisdiction for up to one year for placement in the Regimented Inmate Disciplinary program. Upon successful completion of the RID program, the court ordered that Sims be returned to the Amite County Jail to await further hearing and orders of the court.
4Brian Lakeith Robinson pled guilty to burglary of an automobile.
Robinson was sentenced to five years in state prison. Upon successful completion of one year in the Intensive Supervision Program, the court ordered that Robinson serve the remaining four years on post-release supervision.
4George L. McGhee, Jr. was convicted by a jury of burglary of a dwelling.
McGhee was sentenced as a habitual offender to 25 years in state prison.
4Randall Paul Nevels pled guilty to grand larceny. Nevels was sentenced to five years in state prison. The court retained jurisdiction for up to one year for placement in the Regimented Inmate Disciplinary program. Upon successful completion of the RID program, the court ordered that Nevels be returned to the Amite County Jail to await further hearing and orders of the court.
4Harry Jackson, Jr. was convicted by a jury of sale of a schedule II controlled substance, cocaine (approximately 25 grams). Jackson was sentenced to 20 years in state prison.
After serving 15 years, the court ordered that the remaining five years of Jackson’s term be suspended, and that he be placed on post-release supervision and pay a $5,000 fine and court costs.
4Henry Lee Weatherspoon pled guilty to receiving or possessing stolen property of a value in excess of $250. Weatherspoon was sentenced to five years in state prison. The court further ordered that after one year, the balance of Weatherspoon’s term will be suspended, and he will be placed on post-release supervison and pay a $1,000 fine and court costs.
