PORT GIBSON &045; Pine Hills left-handed pitcher Logan Felder kept Natchez in check to help his team to a 7-3 win Monday night in the Mississippi Dixie Youth 11-12 Sub-district tournament.
Natchez dropped to the loser’s bracket and will play Franklin County, which defeated Claiborne County to stay alive, in an elimination game today at 6 p.m.
Felder picked up the win while Gary Brown, who pitched three innings, took the loss for Natchez.
&uot;They had a left-hander who threw well. We couldn’t hit the ball,&uot; Natchez head coach Alan Dossett said. &uot;He had a sneaky fastball. He wasn’t overpowering. He had a good curve. He kept changing speeds and was keeping us off balance.&uot;
Pine Hills jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Natchez cut the lead to 4-3 in the top of the third inning on an error and a couple of groundouts. That, however, would be as close as the visitors got the rest of the game.
&uot;We had too many strikeouts,&uot; Dossett said. &uot;We couldn’t get anything going.&uot;
