NATCHEZ &045; Most promising actors leave home and head west for the fame and glamour of Hollywood for their acting debut.
But in this case, there’s no need to leave home &045; because Hollywood is coming to Natchez.
Casting representatives for a remake of 1955 comedy &uot; The Ladykillers&uot; is set for 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Natchez City Auditorium.
The extras will be used for a congregation church scene that shoots Sept. 3 and 4.
Black people are sought to play the roles of 30 female congregants, 20 male congregants, two male church drivers, one female church driver, 10 female pedestrians, five female drivers, 10 male pedestrians, five male drivers, four boy pedestrians and four girl pedestrians
in the film.
Families of all ages are welcome including children (with their bicycles).
For the shoot to be as authentic as possible, cars or photos of cars that are &uot;middle class, but not too new&uot; are needed, according to a Chamber of Commerce notice about the casting call.
Photos with contact details on the back will be accepted.
And in attending the casting call, local residents will be doing their part to boost the area’s economy, according to Ed Godfrey of Natchez, assistant location manager for the film in Mississippi.
Having a Hollywood production shoot in Natchez &uot;is always extremely important in terms of publicity for our city,&uot; Godfrey said.
That is because people who work on one film tend to recommend a location to others in the industry if filming goes smoothly there.
In addition, filming will bring about 150 people associated with the film to Natchez, Godfrey said.
Filming for the movie has already started in Los Angeles, where inside shots &045; about 90 percent of the film &045; are being shot.
In Natchez, filming will take place on Canal Street, across from the convention center, and on Commerce Street near the Ritz Theater in the 200 block of Linton Avenue.
Written by Joel and Ethan Coen, the remake of the 1995 black comedy &uot; The Ladykillers&uot; stars Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Catherine Zeta Jones, Marlon Wayans and Greg Gunberg.
&uot; The Ladykillers&uot; centers on an eccentric Southern professor, played by Hanks, who puts together a gang of double-crossing thieves to rob a riverboat casino. They rent a room in an old woman’s house, but when she discovers the scheme, somebody has to kill her.
